Who pays the fee and why it carries IVA

Worth knowing before you set prices or agree on the split with your brands.

IVA is charged on the fee

The fee is a service the processor bills you for, and that service carries IVA. At 3.5 % with 16 % IVA the fee is 4.06 % of the sale, not 3.5 %.

In a multi-brand shop, the brand pays it

Atiéndalo deducts it from what each brand is paid, in proportion to how much of its pieces were paid by card. The customer pays the tag price and the shop never absorbs it.

Only on the card-paid part

When a sale is paid partly in cash and partly by card, the fee is worked out on the card part only. Cash, bank transfers and gift cards pay no fee.

To the cent, like your register

The fee is truncated to the cent, the same figure Atiéndalo stores on every sale. Your rate and IVA are set once under Fees and taxes.

For the full split of a sale between the shop, the terminal and the brand, use the Consignment calculator or read how card terminals work in Atiéndalo.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the terminal fee carry IVA?

Because the fee is a service the processor bills you for, and in Mexico that service carries IVA. The IVA is worked out on the fee, not on the sale amount.

Who pays the fee in a shop with several brands?

In Atiéndalo it comes off what the brand is paid, only on the part of its sales that was paid by card. It is never added to the customer's price.

Which rate should I type?

The one in your contract or on your statement. It depends on the provider and the plan, which is why the calculator only comes with an example.

What if my terminal charges a fixed fee per transaction?

Type it under Fixed fee per charge and the calculator adds its IVA. Atiéndalo only deducts from brands the percentage you set under Fees and taxes, never a fixed fee.

Why might the result be a cent off my statement?

Here, as in Atiéndalo, the fee is truncated to the cent. If your processor rounds differently, the difference can be one cent per charge.

How do I work out what to charge to receive an exact amount?

Pick I want to receive and type the amount. The calculator finds the lowest charge that still leaves you at least that much once the fee and its IVA are taken.
